ANTIQUE

So, I'm going to write this in English because it feels like I'm forgetting it already after lazing around for the past whole month.
Today's topic would be the Korean movie derived from the Japanese manga with the slightly same title, Antique Bakery, which has actually been around since 2008. (Yeah, I'm such a late-bloomer)

I was kind of bored last night (surprise, surprise) and I opened this Omona website (what else is new?) and I read this article about Krystal f(x)'s ideal man to be Kim Jae Wook.

In case you don't know who he is, he's the waffle guy in Coffee Prince who has this "charisma and coolness that couldn't be faked" – source: from somewhere, maybe Allkpop. And I couldn't agree more with that statement.

To be honest, I don't think he's that good-looking. With his skinny feature, dishevelled shoulder-length hair, icy cold glares and a pair of retro glasses, his appearance reminds me more of a tormented artist who'd rather paint all day long without eating. Well, tormented artist is actually what I thought of when I saw Heechul with the black wavy shoulder-length hair of his, too (Yes, I just have to mention him in this unrelated post, it's a curse really.). And I kinda have a thing for tormented, emo artists, so you see why I'm quite attracted to this guy (Jae Wook, I mean. With Heechul, it's already an obsession).

Anyway, back to the Omona, I read the comments there and some of them mentioned this movie. I recalled what Ms. Gunherwati told me about Antique Bakery back when I still took the subject Korea 101 (Now I'm in the Advanced Class, you see).

During one of the unofficial lectures conducted mostly through sleepovers and plurks, she mentioned about Antique contains gay materials and Jae Wook. Back at that time, I think my interest in Heechul had reached the highest level ever, thus this information had not really sunk well in my brain and left once I saw another pic of Heechul. Moreover, Coffee Prince was like centuries ago, so who cares about this Jae Wook, right?

Right, until.....eng ing eng....

(Oh god, this post had turned its direction from Antique to Lia's journey to Antique, but I'm almost there, so please bear with me.)

Cont'd:

Eng ing eng....

I knew about Bad Guy about 1-2 weeks ago (time is irrelevant when you're in holiday) and tried to read the recaps in Dramabeans. Turned out that the storyline of Bad Guy made my head ached and dizzy, so I decided not to watch it (at least for now), but I have to say that a glimpse of Kim Jae Wook brought back good memories.

Good memories aside, packed schedules and No Other brought Kim Jae Wook out of my mind. Until last night, that is. And coincidentally, I have last night free! So I began searching as much information about Antique as possible. From one of the reviews, it's said that Antique is not a gay movie and no explicit contents. I became more intriqued and somewhat relieved.

Actually, there was a little bit hesitation before I watched this movie. I know you know that I am a Hanchul die-hard supporter, but I never actually think of Hanchul as gay. I always thought of them as...well, Hanchul, genderless. So, I've never really watched movies about gays before (other than that awkward episodes of Super junior with Kyumin and Eunhae and Kangteuk...now, what is it called again? Ah I forgot, but I hope you know what I'm talking about. Anyway, I've been cringing most of the times when I watched that episodes.).

With that thought in mind, I decided to just peek a little bit of the movie. Just to see whether it's worth watching or not. Hopefully, there is a complete movie in youtube somewhere.

Turned out that I was in luck! A complete Eng-subbed Antique Bakery with good enough quality had shown up before my very eyes. Good internet connection was also on my side. It must be destiny! I shall include this moment as one of the happiest moments in my life when I wrote my biography.

So I started watching it.... and my first reaction was: Good pace.

Then I continued watching it: Funny dialogues, good acting, FUNNY DIALOGUES.

Then I kept opening the next part in new tab: Kim Jae Wook and the boss (the guy who became prince in Goong) spoke French!!!! More funny actions. More good actings. Good storyline.

Then I finished the movie and I love it.

I LOVE IT. I LOVE IT. I LOVE IT.

Antique Bakery, J'e taime!!!!

Well, there is some kissing which I couldn't help to not cringing, but Kim Jae Wook here really changed my whole image about him. Ah, I don't want to give a spoiler. In fact, I think the LESS you know about this movie, the BETTER.

Close your eyes for a while when you feel uncomfortable with the kissing part, but don't skip it because there'll be a big chance of you missing out the next funny moments!!!! And there are so much funny moments!!!

Even the image of Joo Ji Hoon (the guy who became the boss) I have from Goong (totally stiff with no expression that sometimes I just want to slap him) has changed!!!!! He could act!!!! I'm so happy for you, Ji Hoon.

So really, watch this movie. It's light and entertaining, just perfect for relieving the stress you don't even know you have in you.

Rating: 4 stars out of 5.

P.S. I won't put pictures here. I don't want to spoiler you any more than this.

yeah you! you need something else to do. ckck,,
and that drama with the suju couples is called Super Junior Mini Drama. the theme for that particular episode was i think called Dangerous Relationship or something.
on a side note, watch inception. worth the money, but you have to be in a complete focus when watching. since it's somehow like shutter island.
